CORONAVIRUS TRANSMIT THROUGH EYES!!! How?

According to American Academy of Ophthalmology, AAO, when a sick person coughs or talks, the virus particles can spray from their mouth or nose into another person’s face. You’re most likely to inhale these droplets through your mouth or nose, but they can also enter through your eyes.

Besides that, you can also become infected by touching something that has the virus on it, like a table or doorknob and then touching your eyes.

That is why limiting exposure can help!

Here are some crucial precaution measures to prevent getting coronavirus from the eyes:

• Follow good contact lens hygiene for contact lens wearer. Wash hand thoroughly before handling contact lens to reduce the risk of contamination and of course coronavirus.

• Wearing glasses may add a layer of protection to prevent direct contact of the virus particles into the eyes. Also, glasses can reduce the frequency of touching eyes. However, it is advisable to disinfect glasses after outdoor exposure.

• Wearing a goggles or a face shield can shield against the virus particles, but make sure that the goggles and face shield has to be disinfect after any outdoor exposure.

• Avoid rubbing or touching eyes! The virus particles can be anywhere in the surrounding without realizing where and when.

• If there is an urge to rub eyes or even to adjust glasses, use a tissue or wet wipes instead of fingers. Fingers are always the ‘front-liners’ of going into contact with surfaces.

• Dry eyes can lead to more eye rubbing, adding moisturizing drops to eye care routine will be a great help. The drops can relieve and also reduce the chances of touching eyes.

• If one must touch eye for any reason, make sure hands are properly washed and disinfect before touching.

• For contact lens wearer, stop wearing and dispose the contact lens if there are any signs and symptoms as tearing, “pink” eye and/or any discharge.

Let’s practice these prevention steps to be as further away as possible from the COVID-19 and hope for lesser outbreaks in the shortest time possible. We can do our part. Stay home! Stay distance socializing! Stay precautious!
