Photochromic Lenses
We’ve got sunglasses now, why photochromic lenses?
When you are a glasses wearer, there is not many options you have in fighting the frustration with glare under the sun! It is either carrying both of your glasses and prescription sunglasses wherever you go or bringing along a pair of bulky fit-over sunglasses so it can fit on top of your glasses. Undeniably, albeit offering you a fabulous sunglasses-look, the former option results in more hassles when you travel outdoor and head back indoor; while the latter one gives you convenience, but it is very unlikely the one for a fancy and fabulous look.
In this case, photochromic lenses will be the alternative! You can have the frame design of your choice; whilst protecting your eyes against the glare and UV radiation from the sun, you no longer have to bother switching for different pairs when you are indoor or outdoor, thanks to the light-intelligent property!
That’s the perk of being a glasses-wearer, but fret not, we heard you!
What Are Photochromic Lenses?
Photochromic lenses are light-adaptive or light-intelligent lenses which can be made with or without prescription, they are the combination of clear and dark glasses which transition naturally from indoor to outdoor.
These two-in-one glasses that are clear (or nearly clear) indoor intelligently darken into various colours when exposed to sunlight, protecting your eyes against glare as well as UV radiation whilst saving you the hassles of always having to switch between glasses.
Wondering what are the plus points over clear glasses?
Point #1: Protect Your Eyes Against UV-Related Eye Diseases
Photochromic lenses normally filter up to 100% UV radiation, reducing the risk of cataract, photokeratitis or pterygium later in life.
Point #2: Hassle Free and Cost Effective
Clearly with such light-intelligent lenses, you do not have to carry both glasses and sunglasses, swapping between both, meaning that you are less likely to lose or misplace one of them. Also, they are cost effective where you do not have to spend for clear glasses and sunglasses! One simple solution and you get the best of both, why not?
Point #3: Various Choices of Frame Design
Photochromic lenses come in a myriad of styles, shades and tints that matches anyone’s taste, you can certainly protect your eyes without compromising the aesthetic and style. How you like that?
Point #4: Both Functional and Stylish
Photochromic lenses can be designed to meet most prescription needs. For instance, a layer of anti-reflective coating which allows a greater amount of light passing through the lenses, providing sharper vision in low-light condition e.g. driving at night. Anti-reflective coating also removes reflections from the sunlight when conditions are bright.
Do photochromic lenses work against harmful UV radiation only?
Photochromic lenses are infused with chemical reactants made of special dyes and molecules that shift and change when they are exposed to high-energy light. Hence, molecules present in photochromic lenses are able to combat blue light up to wavelength 420nm.
